I've been putting it off because, ever since I stopped taking birth control, I've put on some weight. This has affected my self-confidence and even prevented me from being creative with my co*des. Simply because I knew I'd have to accept that many of my clothes wouldn't fit anymore.
6. I thought this Zara skirt looked so cute on the rack, but I foolishly didn't bother to try it on in-store. The bubble hem is super reminiscent of gyaru styles popular in the late 2000s and 2010s. However, I never wear this. And for that, I'm going to be getting rid of it.
It's time to face the music.
I don't mean for that to sound cruel. Actually, I want to approach this from a place of compassion. I'm trying to come to terms with the fact that my body is a thing of perpetual change.
Ultimately, I want to achieve body neutrality. And a part of that, for me, is allowing myself to still participate in the things I enjoy. In this case, I'm referring to fashion and putting together outfits. Sharing my coordinates shouldn't be contingent on how thin I am.
Aside from this change in my figure, another reason I haven't been doing many fashion posts is because, well... frankly, my closet is a mess.
Recently, I've been going through a bit of a style evolution. I've found my niche in late 90s/early 2000s ganguro, and I want to cultivate a wardrobe more focused on that period of gyaru. So, there are many pieces that I simply don't wear anymore or don't fit me.
I intend to go through my entire wardrobe, try everything on, and make an executive decision about what I should keep or donate. That's what this post is about. Since I have a lot of clothes (hehe...) I'm going to break up this clean-out into sections. Today, we'll focus on bottoms.
This is going to be in a super informal journal-like style. I hope you enjoy it.

I got off to a slow start. I'm unsure why, but getting up has been difficult lately. For the past two weeks, I've been waking up with a headache and lightheadedness. It usually goes away after about an hour, but today it took longer.
I spent most of the morning just lying in bed.
I did get up at some point, but it was only to get my headphones.
Utilizing the size of my forehead for good. |
I got up again, and this time for good.
No pants... yet. |
This pile has been staring at me for a couple of weeks now. Whenever I would clean my apartment, I'd fold them nicely and push them off to the side. Eventually, it always ends up like this.
The first thing I did was make my bed.
I transferred The Pile™ from the floor to the bed...
...and then took out all of my bottoms from the closet.
Udon break (~˘▾˘)~
It's time to get down to business.
1. This is a star skirt from Romwe. I don't shop from Romwe/Shein anymore (I don't want to get into it now, but let's just say they have a shocking record of human rights violations.) I'm surprised by its quality. It fits well, and I like how it looks. AHHHH. As I was taking it off, the button broke. (╥﹏╥) Serves me right, I guess. Just as I was complimenting the quality...
2. This is a sporty maxi from Puma. I love it. It's super comfy, and I think I can style it into some sporty co*des reminiscent of the outfits the Jassie clerks used to wear. I'm going to keep it.
3. This is a Coco Bongo skirt I got off of Mercari JP. This is another keep.
4. A pinstripe skirt from ANAP. It goes with a matching pinstripe blazer. I bought this when I was wearing more tsuyome/kuro co*des. I like it, but it's pretty tight now. For that alone, I'm on the fence about whether I want to keep it. It looks so cute paired with my d.i.a. belt..... urghhhh.... I'm going to think on this one.
5. This is another one I'm unsure about. I like how it looks, especially in the picture, but it feels super cheap and is kind of uncomfortable to wear. Grrr....
7. Simple white skirt. Really nothing special. It fits okay, and since I don't have anything else like it, I'm going to keep it.
8. This was my first brand item on my gyaru journey. It's very special to me. I don't really wear Agejo anymore, but I'm definitely going to keep it for the sake of sentimentality.
9. These are the velour bottoms that go along with my Juicy hoodie. They're slightly stained at the bottom so I'm going to try a stain treatment on them, but I'm going to be keeping them.
10. Another pair of velour juicy bottoms. Definite keep.
11. We're all just going to pretend that I didn't accidentally include an extra photo of these pants, okay?
12. While wrinkly, these yellow pants are super cute and comfy. I like them a lot. However, the last time I wore them, I nearly pantsed myself in public due to accidentally stepping on the strings on the side, www. I will keep them, albeit I'll be wearing something underneath from now on.
13. This skirt is so cute but tight. I like it so much that I'm going to keep it. I also wore it fairly recently and found that it didn't ride up, nor was it all that uncomfortable despite its tightness.
14. This is a fun skirt I got off Mercari JP. This is a keep.
15. This is a camo mini skirt from the brand Moe. I love the hemline and the fit, so I'll be keeping it.
16. Ahh, I recently got these jeans from a vintage shop in Koenji!! They're hand crocheted at the bottom. Super adorable. Keep.
17. Basic white maxi skirt from Uniqlo. Keep.
18. Purple pants I thrifted from Mode Off. The hem is now spotted with paint after an art project. They're super comfy, but I don't like how they look on me. As such, I'll be getting rid of them.
19. I feel similarly about these camo pants. I just don't like the way these fit me, and I haven't worn them in ages. I'd like another pair of camo pants, but maybe one with a different fit. I'll be getting rid of them.
20. I bought this skirt in Shimokitazawa. I wanted to do some rokku co*des with it but never did. I'll be giving it up.
21. Cute and comfy. Keep.
22. Cute and comfy x2. Keep.
23. This skirt is so short. However, I've worn it fairly recently with a pair of black bloomers underneath, and it looked adorable. I don't think these colors do much for me, but the pleating and leather accents are cute so I'm going to keep it.
24. Alba Rosa mini. Keep.
25. Putting on this skirt was a bit... mentally painful. Before coming to Japan, I had this skirt taken in because it was too large, and even after that, it was pretty loose. Now it's tight. Despite that, I like the way it looks, so I'm going to keep it.
26. I love the pattern and belt. Keep.
27. One of my favorite skirts. Keep.
28. I love the 1960s, mod look of this skirt. It even has little shorts underneath. Keep.
29. I found this skirt at a vintage store in Koenji. It's from Target's Wild Fable brand!! I was surprised to see it all the way over here, www. Keep.
30. This is my go-to denim mini. Keep.
31. Another find from a vintage store in Koenji. It reminds me of the 90s, and it's very comfy. Keep.
32. These jeans are super cool, and I love the tie-up front. Keep.
33. I love the tiering on this skirt, but it's soooo short. And pretty tight. Hm. She's on thin ice.
34. Alba Rosa skirt. Keep.
35. Levi's cut-offs. Keep.
Note: I have other pairs of basic jeans and shorts that I didn't photograph because... it's boring.
Whew. We did it. Why am I exhausted? ( ̄▽ ̄||)
Now I'm about to put all the keeps back in my closet and have a hard think about the maybes.
I'm not sure how exciting this post was for you, but I found photographing and assessing each piece quite helpful. It forced me to be more intentional with my clothing, which I want to get into the habit of doing.
Thanks for coming along. See you in the next installation. ♡
